Happy New Year from Fifth Street

Despite the provincial restrictions that are in place until at least February 5, 2021, there is reason for optimism in 2021. The light at the end of the tunnel is the Covid Vaccine. It is the hope that every Canadian will be vaccinated by the end of September 2021.

We know many of you have questions regarding the safety and efficacy of the vaccines, as well as the logistics of the vaccine roll-out. For accurate information please check this link from the BCCDC. For an idea as to when you might receive your vaccination, go to this Vancouver Sun  or Times Colonist news article which gives an estimate of when the vaccine will be given, based on your age, and other determinants of health.  It is important to remember that never before has such a large scale vaccine roll-out occurred. Despite everyone's best intentions and hard work, there are bound to be mis-steps along the way, as we learn how to distribute the vaccine most efficaciously. Just as in the early days of the pandemic, information may change quite quickly, as for example, the timing between the first and second doses of the vaccine. It may be unsettling for some to hear apparently conflicting information from one day to the next. Rest assured, these decisions are being made based on the best available science at the time.

Due to the ongoing need to maintain physical distance to prevent Covid spread, your clinic appointments will continue to be primarily by telephone. It is important to remember that despite being over the phone, they are actual appointments, at a scheduled time. Your physician likely has a series of several phone appointments in a row.  Therefore it is very important that you note your appointment time in your calendar with appropriate reminders if required.  When booking your appointment, please update your phone number(s) with our staff, and advise them at which number you wished to be called for your appointment. If using a cell phone for your appointment, please ensure that your phone is not on silent, and that you are in an area with excellent cell reception for your call. Your physician will likely try to call you twice during your appointment time, if the call is not answered, she/he will have to move on to the next appointment. If you miss your appointment, do call in, but please understand your appointment may need to be rescheduled to another day.  Missed appointments are considered 'no-shows' and you may be charged a fee for a missed appointment.

Online booking of virtual appointments (phone and video) is currently available for patients of Drs. McFadden and McKenzie, and will be coming soon for Dr. Brais' patients. Please click on the online tab above to book.
